March 21, 1996 FORTRAN Modifications in CAP88 Version 2.0 (Beta-Test Version) There are some differences in the FORTRAN code between the original release of CAP88-PC, version 1.0, and this beta-test copy of version 2.0. The FORTRAN code was modified to add six new decay chain series, correct a minor error in the uranium decay chain, correct a typographical error in the concentration reports, and to make other minor changes. Since this is a beta- test version, these changes have not yet been formally reviewed or approved by the Environmental Protection Agency or the Department of Energy, for use in demonstrating compliance with Subpart H of 40 CFR 61, the NESHAPS standards for Department of Energy facilities. A description of the FORTRAN modifications in the beta-test copy of version 2.0 is given below. 1) The following new decay chains were added: Chain Name Decay Chain Buildup Factors STRONTIUM SR-90/Y-90 f1=2.09e+3 ZIRCONIUM ZR-95/NB-95 f1=1.86e+0 RUTHENIUM 103 RU-103/RH-103M f1=9.86e+2 RUTHENIUM 106 RU-106/RH-106 f1=1.03e+6 CERIUM CE-144/PR-144 f1=2.32e+4 PLUTONIUM PU-241/AM-241 f1=1.97e-2 2) The uranium chain (U-238) was corrected by replacing PA-234 with PA-234M. No change was needed to the buildup factors. 3) Users can now also add partial chains from the Uranium or Thorium decay chains. The Uranium chain (U-238) has 14 members. Any of the members except RN-222 (Radon), PB-210 (Lead), and PB-208 (U chain end) may be selected and the user is given the choice to add "the rest of the chain" starting with the chain member selected. RN-222 (Radon) is treated as a special case when selected. PB-210 (Lead) is treated as the beginning of the Lead chain. PB-208, as the end of the Uranium chain, has no decay products to be added. Any member of the Thorium chain (TH-232), except for PB-208 (TH chain end) may be selected and the user is given the choice to add "the rest of the chain" starting with the chain member selected. 4) AIRDOS was altered to correct units displayed in column headings for the "Estimated Radionuclide Concentrations" report in the Concentration output file. Dry, Wet, and Ground Deposition Rate units labelled "(pCi/m2/s)" were corrected to read "(pCi/cm2/s)". NO CHANGES WERE MADE TO THE CALCULATIONS. ONLY THE REPORT COLUMN HEADINGS WERE CHANGED. 5) AIRDOS, DEFAULT, and DARTAB were edited to remove the CAP88-PC Version number from the report title pages, above the title "Clean Air Act Assessment Package - 1988". 6) DARTAB was altered to correct indexes in a 4-dimensional array to properly initialize the array. --------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for your interest in this beta-test version of CAP88- PC, version 2.0.
