Boxer Rebellion

The Boxer Rebellion had nothing to do with boxes or a fight in a ring. Instead the rebellion happened in China. It was like a war. The Boxers were Chinese who believed very strongly that other countries should not be in China. They believed China was for the Chinese.

In 1900 the Hoovers were living in Tientsin, China in an area with other people who were not Chinese. The Hoovers did not leave even though it was a dangerous situation. Lou Henry Hoover went about helping others as bullets went whizzing by. One day a bullet was shot into the tire of her bicycle. Other bullets were shot into their home. The picture shows their house before the rebellion. Lou Henry Hoover showed courage during these troubles and was always concerned about others.
