Soft-x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), soft-x-ray emission spectroscopy (XES), resonant inelastic soft-x-ray scattering (RIXS) in material sciences, chemical physics, and biosciences; Development of soft-x-ray spectroscopy instrumentation for investigating hydrogen bonding and molecular structure in liquids and in-situ monitoring the chemical processes in catalysis and electrochemistry.

Project: "Resonant soft-x-ray fluorescence spectroscopy applied to high temperature superconductors and carbon systems"
      • The first resonant soft-x-ray emission study of high temperature superconductors (1994)
      • The first resonant soft-x-ray emission study of C60 fullerene (1995)
      • The first using detuning excitation in resonant inelastic soft-x-ray scattering (RIXS) which becomes now a powerful spectroscopic technique (1996)
      • The first resonant soft-x-ray emission study of hydrogen bonding in liquid water (2002)
