Pumpkin Time (A Bedtime Story) A sleek black cat stalks out the Door upon the starless Night - he blends into the darkness Like an ancient troglodyte; 'tis the time of year when witches Brush foliage from the trees and pumpkin Jack'O'lanterns glow and flicker in the Breeze. Small sheeted ghosts will See themselves and scare themselves to Pieces as they streak past gray glass Windows and meet skeletons and Bats and run away from scare-crows Dressed in farmers' torn straw Hats. In the eerie scary distance Hoots a hoarse old Owl and when they hear wierd laughter All the kids begin to Howl - take me back, take me home Let me in - End of poem. Note: State of Maine Writer's Conference 1982. Prize winning poem. Editor recalls the last line was joint effort of TomMikeLiz + Gram.
