NOAA Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory Milestone Reports

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR), in keeping with the Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA, Public Law 103-62), the NOAA Strategic Plan, and its related Five-Year Implementation Plan, establishes an Operating Plan each fiscal year. These are organized in terms of Objectives, Performance Measures (PM), and Milestones under each of the following major elements of the NOAA Strategic Plan:

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Office of Strategic Planning has announced the completion of the NOAA Strategic Plan 2006-2011 [pdf] and the NOAA 5 year Research Plan [pdf]. NOAA’s Research Plan promises major improvements in the agency’s capability to serve America and all Americans. the NOAA Strategic Plan should read 2008-2012 instead of 2006-2001.

NOAA Strategic Plan Goals 2003 - 2008 set an agenda for wise investment of finite resources for achieving NOAA's mission. As the new century unfolds, new priorities for NOAA action are emerging in the areas of climate change, freshwater supply, ecosystem management, an dhomeland security. The new Strategic Plan is NOAA's response to all of these challenges.

  1. Protect, restore, and manage the use of coastal resources through ecosystem-based management.
  2. Understand climate variability and change to enhance society's ability to plan and respond.
  3. Serve society's needs for weather and water information.
  4. Support the Nation's commerce with information for safe, efficient, and environmentally sound transportation.
