Civil/Human Rights: Another Right Winger Blames Feminism for Terrorist Attacks |

Feminist Daily News Wire

Ultra-conservative radio and TV icon “Dr.” Laura Schlessinger joined the ranks of right-wing figures offering reactionary statements after last week’s terrorist attacks on New York City and Washington, DC. Schlessinger allegedly implied that the security breach leading to the attack on the Pentagon was a result of the presence of women in the military. Mary Yastishock a retired Air Force Trial Lawyer, had two conversations with the show’s production officials who initially denied those accusations. During the second conversation, the same officials admitted that Schlessinger “did say that” a couple of times, but later “clarified” her position as supporting women in the military as long as they do not participate in direct combat. No transcript of recording of the show was available. Schlessinger has been infamous for her anti-gay statements, and her recent television show was cancelled from most major networks.

My Son Dylan sent me this poem; it’s a good one! He is in the ARMY in Virginia & is on his way to Germany in December. Please, Pray for him & all of the Servicemen & Woman, as well as all of us.
GOD BLESS AMERICA
Tom & Marilyn Walls

An open letter to a terrorist: (author unknown)
Well, you hit the World Trade Center, but you missed America. You hit the Pentagon, but you missed America. You used helpless American bodies, to take out other American bodies, but like a poor marksman, you STILL missed America. Why? Because of something you guys will never understand. America isn't about a building or two, not about financial centers, not about military centers, America isn't about a place, America isn't even about a bunch of bodies. America is about an IDEA. |

THE former president held the woman tightly in his arms
and let her
pound out all the tears and the rage on his shoulder.
Another woman approached and collapsed in a wailing
heap on to his chest.
He clutched her to him, lowered his head, and whispered
words of comfort in her ear.
A small boy stood beside him, looked up in awe, and the
big man pulled him towards his stomach.
He patted his head, looked down with pity in his eyes and
gave the lad a look which said he
represented all that mattered now. The future. |

USNFA Releases New WTC Concept |

September 17th, 2001 - New York. The U. S. National
Federation of Architects (USNFA) today unveiled an artist's rendering of a new concept for the New World Trade Center.
The design features a 240 floor central tower flanked by towers that range in
height from 110 floors to 180 floors. This would more than triple the amount of
floor space in the old World Trade Center that was plane-bombed on September
11th, 2001. The USNFA released very few details. USNFA spokesman, Birdie Fingerhut stated that the USNFA voted unanimously to release the artist' rendering at this time because they believe it will be motivational to the American People and to
the world.

Civil/Human Rights: Robertson: Terrorism attacks show 'we must come back to God' |

The
Associated Press
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson said Tuesday's
terror attacks occurred because Americans have insulted God and lost the
protection of heaven.
"We have imagined ourselves invulnerable and have been consumed by the
pursuit of ... health, wealth, material pleasures and sexuality," Robertson
wrote in a three-page statement issued Thursday by his Christian Broadcasting
Network.
"It (terrorism) is happening because God Almighty is lifting his
protection from us," said Robertson.
Robertson is host of CBN's "the 700 Club," a religious television
program viewed by 1 million Americans daily. He founded the Christian Coalition
and unsuccessfully ran for the 1988 Republican presidential nomination.
In the statement, Robertson said he was filled with compassion for victims of
Tuesday's attacks, and called for a religious revival in America. "We must
come back to God as a people," Robertson wrote.
Robertson said Americans have insulted God by allowing abortion and
"rampant Internet pornography." He also chided the U.S. Supreme Court
for, among other things, limiting prayer in public schools.
"We have a court that has essentially stuck its finger in God's
eye," Robertson wrote. "We have insulted God at the highest level of
our government. Then, we say, 'Why does this happen?"'

Politics: Falwell blames Americans for terrorist attacks |

The
Advocate
The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force issued a statement Thursday responding
to antigay remarks made earlier in the day by the Rev. Jerry Falwell on the
Christian news show The 700 Club. When host Pat Robertson asked Falwell
to comment on Tuesday's terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C.,
Falwell went on a tirade, naming all the groups he deems responsible for setting
the stage for such an event to happen: "The ACLU's got to take a lot of
blame for this...throwing God out successfully with the help of the federal
court system, throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools. The
abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be
mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad.
I really believe that the pagans and the abortionists and the feminists and the
gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative
lifestyle...all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger
in their face and say, 'You helped this happen.'"
NGLTF executive director Lorri L. Jean issued a statement that read, in part,
"The terrible tragedy that has befallen our nation, and indeed the entire
global community, is the sad byproduct of fanaticism. It has its roots in the
same fanaticism that enables people like Jerry Falwell to preach hate against
those who do not think, live, or love in the exact same way he does. The
tragedies that have occurred this week did not occur because someone made God
mad, as Mr. Falwell asserts. They occurred because of hate. It is time to move
beyond a place of hate and to a place of healing. We hope that Mr. Falwell will
apologize to the U.S. and world communities. Our hearts go out to the victims of
this week's tragedies and their friends and family members."
Sign the Petition to George
Bush asking him to condemn these outrageous statements.

Commission warned Bush
But White House passed on recommendations by a bipartisan, Defense department-ordered commission on domestic terrorism.

By Jake Tapper
Sept. 12, 2001 |
WASHINGTON --
They went to great pains not to sound as though they were telling the president "We told you so."
But on Wednesday, two former senators, the bipartisan co-chairs of a Defense Department-chartered commission on national security, spoke with something between frustration and regret about how White House officials failed to embrace any of the recommendations to prevent acts of domestic terrorism delivered earlier this year.
Bush administration officials told former Sens. Gary Hart, D-Colo., and Warren Rudman, R-N.H., that they preferred instead to put aside the recommendations issued in the January report by the U.S. Commission on National Security/21st Century. Instead, the White House announced in May that it would have Vice President Dick Cheney study the potential problem of domestic terrorism -- which the bipartisan group had already spent two and a half years studying -- while assigning responsibility for dealing with the issue to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, headed by former Bush campaign manager Joe Allbaugh.

31 January 2001
Executive Summary of U.S. Commission on National Security Report
A bipartisan commission set up to evaluate the current national
security climate and propose changes needed to meet new threats has
issued a report that calls for major changes in governmental
structures and processes.
Included in the report released January 31 by the United States
Commission on National Security/21st Century are a proposal for a new,
cabinet-level National Homeland Security Agency that would combine the
Federal Emergency Management Agency with several other agencies, and a
prescription for recasting a "crippled" State Department and the
Department of Defense.
The 14-member commission, headed by former Senators Gary Hart
(Democrat, Colorado) and Warren Rudman (Republican, New Hampshire),
includes other former legislators, Executive Branch officials,
military leaders and representatives from business, academia and the
news media.
Following is the text of the executive summary of the 140-odd page
report: The complete report can be accessed at www.nssg.gov.
