  • met with researchers, growers, and industry leaders;

  • secured critical funding for research, education, infrastructure and marketing; and

  • supported other initiatives to promote wine tourism.

Senator Murray is a member of the Congressional Wine Caucus and the Senate Specialty Crops Caucus.

Funding Research

Senator Murray has used her position on the Senate
Senator Murray Receives an Update on Viniculture Research.
Appropriations Committee to secure funding to support viniculture research throughout the Northwest. This funding also supports the development of a foundation block of plant material, which is critical to ensuring the industry remains disease and virus-free.

Funding Infrastructure Improvements

Senator Murray knows that improving transportation and infrastructure is critical to economic development in rural areas. Senator Murray has secured critical federal funding to widen U.S. Highway 12 from Burbank to Walla Walla. Expanding the road from two to four lanes will make it a safer and less congested route for tourists to use when they visit Washington vineyards.

Promoting Tourism

Senator Murray has secured federal funding to support
Senator Murray meets with Walter Clore, the father of Washington's wine industry.
the development of the Walter Clore Wine and Culinary Center, which is being built in Prosser.

The facility will feature multimedia exhibits and provide a destination location to help spur wine tourism. The Center also honors the late Walter Clore, who is recognized as the father of the Washington wine industry.
