Bedside Cradles Recalled by W.C. Redmon

PRODUCT: Bedside Cradle - W.C. Redmon Co., of Peru, Ind., is recalling about 1,800 "Cuddle Me Close" bedside cradles for repair. The wooden cradle is for infants from birth to 3 months of age and attaches to an adult bed to keep the baby within arm's reach. It is painted white and comes with four wooden legs. Each leg has three segments to adjust the height of the cradle. Infant product catalogs, including One Step Ahead and Popular Club, and juvenile product stores, including Babies R Us and several small independent stores, sold the cradles nationwide for about $149 beginning in February 1998.

PROBLEM: The legs on the cradles can become loose and can separate, causing the cradle to tip.

INJURIES/INCIDENTS: Redmon has received about 50 reports of the cradles' legs becoming loose or separating, including two reports of cradles tipping. No injuries have been reported.

WHAT TO DO: Consumers should stop using the Cuddle Me Close cradle immediately and call Redmon collect at (765) 473-6683 Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. EST for free replacement legs. Consumers can also write to W.C. Redmon Co., P.O. Box 7, Peru, Ind. 46970.
