Development of Analytical Methods for Studying
the Environmental Fate of Organoarsenical Animal Feed Additives: A
collaborative research project between the Environmental Chemistry
Branch (ECB) and the U.S. Geological Survey Water(USGS). Once finalized,
these methods will be available to the EPA Regions to inform environmental
assessment decisions regarding arsenic contamination. This study will
provide key information needed to assess whether concentrated animal
feedlot operations (CAFOs) using organoarsenic feeds should be regulated
as point pollution sources. It will give to the Regions the tools
needed to monitor such operations. |

Determination of ultra-trace levels of agricultural pesticides in alpine lake waters.Analytical methods have been developed to extract, concentrate, and purify ultra-trace levels of agricultural pesticides in large volumes of water. | |

| Research involved the development of analytical methods
based on Hydride Generation coupled with Atomic Absorption Spectrometry
for the identification and quantification of naturally occurring compounds
of arsenic, selenium, and antimony in ground waters collected in Southern
Nevada. Such information was necessary to determine the redox properties
of the ground waters. The total concentrations of the elements in
the water samples were confirmed by ICPMS. |
