Advanced Wetland Photo-Interpretation Workshop
When:November 1, 2004
Description:This three day workshop will cover: The development of a methodology for mapping wetlands projects, an understanding of the NWI wetland and the National Wetlands Research Center upland classification systems, Photo-interpretation of color infrared aerial photographs, the use of soil surveys, topographic maps and historical wetland maps as aids in the Photo-interpretation process, techniques for groundtruthing, and cartographic transformation of photo-interpreted habitats to a standard base map. This course will include classroom lecture, classroom exercises in photo-interpretation of habitats using a stereoscope, fieldwork, cartographic transformation using a zoom transfer scope. An understanding of the identification of wetland habitats from aerial photographs (*as presented in the Introduction to Remote Sensing and Photo-interpretation of Wetlands) is essential for this workshop. *Work related experiences can be substituted for the introductory workshop.

Symposium on Wetland Loss and Restoration

Workshop for Administrators and the GIS Community

Description:The US Geological Survey Louisiana NSDI Partnership Office presents Louisiana Spatial Data Volunteer Pilot Program & Louisiana Spatial Data Information Center Browser Workshop. This one-day workshop will describe the unique concept of the USGS Louisiana Spatial Data Partnership Office (LaSDPO) Volunteer Pilot Program – the first in the Nation. The workshop and subsequent discussions will consist of, but not limited to: (1) types of data being harvested, their current condition & value to The National Map, Homeland Security, First Responders, and the Louisiana GIS Community as a whole, (2) status & achievements of the LaSDPO Volunteer Program, (3) benefits to Louisiana, The Nation, and the participants, and (4) how Federal, State, local governments, organizations, the private sector, and individuals may become involved. The workshop will be comprised of lecture/slide presentation, hands-on experience with the “Louisiana Spatial Data Information Center Browser”, and handout information. The workshop is ideally suited for agencies administrators and GIS experienced individuals that may recognize the merit of the LaSDPO Volunteer Program and be in a position to participate or have the authority to delegate participation.

The workshop will be comprised of lecture/slide presentation, hands-on experience with the “Louisiana Spatial Data Information Center Browser”, and handout information. The workshop is ideally suited for those with research interests in the Sciences (Computer, Physical, Biological, Social, etc) as well as Management and Economics.

The workshop is ideally suited for Law Enforcement Agencies and First Responders that have a need for GIS data in the course of their specific profession. It is essential to remember that it is not necessary to have GIS experience or software – this Program operates through a normal Web Browser.
