Description/Abstract | Technical feature:Development of a manned superpressure balloon provides a platform for tropospheric monitoring flights that has many attractive attributes.^The use of new high strength fabrics allows the construction of a balloon that contains its lifting gas under pressure, thereby providing long-term flight stability.^Three flights, each lasting more than 30 hours, have already been accomplished.^Scientists on board can facilitate the collection of atmospheric data.^Flight configuration, flight testing, and flight data are presented.^Flights lasting several days can cost less than $5000.^(1 drawing, 17 graphs, 3 maps, 6 photos, 1 table) |
