Enough Said/Easton of Tallahassee, FL Wins Women's Open at Hooters Championship Series
10/16/2004 Oklahoma City , OK - Enough Said/Easton of Tallahassee , FL left no doubt who was the top team in the Women's Open division of the Hooters Championship Series on Saturday closing out the Armed Forces 21-0 in game four to take the title.
"The Hooters Championship Series is totally awesome," said Enough Said coach Ian Houston. "It is the pinnacle in our sport and a great reward to play in this venue. The people here were very nice and the competition was the best we faced."
With the series tied 1-1 after Day One, Enough Said rallied from two runs down in the bottom of the eighth inning to win game three 18-17. Katura Williams, who was named as the Series MVP for the Women's Open division, hit a walk off home run to bring her team within one win of the title.
"Katura is a great ball player," said Houston . "She is genuine, loves the game and always plays hard. She hustles and hits the ball hard and is deserving of this honor."
In the final game, home run derby champion Lynnie France went 3-for-3 with three home runs and nine RBI. Williams followed France twice in the game with a home run of her own.
Despite being pitched around for the majority of the Series, France still led her team with 14 RBI. Williams finished the Series with a .786 batting average (11-for-14) and four home runs.
"I learned a lot here in Oklahoma City ," Katura said. "I play with a great group of ladies and they are behind me 100%. This tournament is a great way to bring in the best of the best."
Jennifer McAfee, an addition to the Armed Forces squad since nationals, led her team offensively going 7-for-10 while Rachel Smith drove in nine runs.
As a team during the Series, Enough Said was simply dominate in almost every offensive category outscoring Armed Forces 62-32 and hit 18 more home runs than its counterpart.
Since the Women's Open division is the highest level in ASA women's slow pitch, Enough Said is eligible to compete for a spot in the 2004 Hooters Championship Series.
Armed Forces Rebounds From Game One Route To Split With Enough Said
10/15/2004 - In opening day action of the Women's Open Division, the Armed Forces of San Antonio, TX and Enough Said/Easton of Tallahassee, FL split 1-1 after the Armed Forces bounced back from a 17-5 thumping at the hands of Enough Said/Easton in game one. Totaling six home runs in the game, Enough Said/ Easton was led by Sirene Johnson who was 2-for-3 with two home runs and five RBI.
"We came out knowing that we had to hit the ball," said Enough Said/ Easton coach Cathy Bradley. "And we certainly did that with six home runs. We also had great defense and everybody got a chance to play which was great. We really got out there and played well."
The tides then turned in the 5 p.m. match up as the Armed Forces slid by Enough Said/Easton 10-6. Through two games, it was the awesome bat of Rachel Smith that led the troops going 5-for-6 in two games with three doubles and five RBI.
"Our defense was on and we really starting hitting the rocks 'hitting the ball' as we like to call it in game two," said Armed Forces coach Shirley Wickery.
"Tomorrow is all about defense," said Armed Forces coach Robert Bailey. "In any sport at all times defense is key. We have to come out strong, make routine plays, and just take them out of their game."
Field set for ASA Hooters Championship SeriesOKLAHOMA CITY , OK - The field is set for the 2004 ASA Hooters Championship Series, October 14-16, at Don E. Porter Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, OK. Sponsored by Hooters Restaurants, Miller Lite, and Easton, the tournament consists of the top slow pitch team from the East and West in Men's Class A, B, C, D and Women's Open and Class C and D. The teams captured their respective East/West National Championship final to qualify for the Championship Series in Oklahoma City. Teams will be competing in a best three out of five game series.
In addition to earning a spot in the Hooters Championship Finals, teams will receive up to 15 round-trip plane tickets, eight hotel rooms per night, prizes including Synergy 2 bats (for the winners in OKC) bats bags, sunglasses, and gift cards from ASA sponsors including Hooters, Miller Lite and Easton Sports. Also teams will media exposure including television and newspaper and an experience of a lifetime to play in the countries best softball facility.Ten different states are represented among the 14-teams that qualified and emerged from a field of nearly 600 teams.
