AESHNIDAE (DARNERS) 

1) Aeshna umbrosa Walker (usnm ent 00123319 aeshna umbrosa walker sex? yuster) -- this was a final instar larva collected and returned to Elizabeth Yuster 

2) Anax junius (Drury) -- sight records -- 2 mature males, 1 female ovipositing i n lily pad 

3) Epiaseschna heros (Fabricius) -- sight records -- 3 seen, 1 was a female ovipo siting in rotten wood in the pond next to the bioblitz tables 

LIBELLULIDAE (SKIMMERS) 

4) Erythemis simplicicollis (Say) -- sight records -- 4 males seen at the ponds 

5) Libellula cyanea Fabricius -- 1 sight record male -- 1 capture/release male -- 1 collected by your team (usnm ent 00123312 libellula cyanea fabricius male orr) 

6) Libellula incesta Hagen -- 2 sight record males -- 1 collected by your team (usnm ent00123313 libellula incesta hagen female orr) 

7) Libellula lydia Drury -- 12 sight records males and females -- 2 collected by your team (usnm ent 00123314 libellula lydia drury male female orr) -- observed female ovipositin g alone (not guarded by male which is usually the case) 

8) Pachydiplax longipennis (Burmeister) -- 20 sight and capture/release records, males and females -- 1 collected by your team (usnm ent 00123315 pachydiplax longipennis (burmeister) male orr) 

9) Tramea lacerat    a Hagen -- 2 sight records, both males over ponds 

LESTIDAE (SPREADWING DAMSELFLIES) 

10) Lestes rectangularis Say -- 3 collected by your team (usnm ent 00123316 lestes rectangularis say male male female orr) 

COENAGRIONIDAE (POND DAMSELFLIES) 

11) Argia fumipennis violacea (Hagen) -- 5 late instar larvae collected by Elizab eth Yuster and returned to her -- collected from Nash Branch (usnm ent 00123320 argia fumipennis violacea hagen sex? yuster) 

12) Enallagma sp. probably exsulans (Hagen) -- 1 mid instar larva collected by El izabeth Yuster and returned to her (usnm ent 00123321 enallagma species? author? sex? yuster) 

13) Ischnura kellicotti Williamsoni -- 50+ seen, captured and released -- males a nd females on floating leaves of ponds -- observed in wheel (copulation)-- red female and gray female forms were present with gray form predominating 

14) Ischnura posita posita (Hagen) -- 50+ seen, captured and released -- males an d females -- 1 collected by your team (usnm ent 00123317 ischnura posita posita hagen male orr) 

15) Ischnura verticalis (Say) -- 8 seen, captured and released -- males and females -- 1 collected by your team (usnm ent 00123318 ischnura verticalis (say) female orr) 

Thanks for letting me look at specimens collected by the Smithsonian team. If you wish to have these specimens returned to the museum I would be happy to do so. 

The larvae species collected by Elizabeth Yuster from Nash Branch indicates that this stream is very much alive and is maintaining at least a reasonable (for an urban setting) degree of water quality.
