Title Effects of off-road vehicle traffic on the biotic community of sandy beaches

at Cape Cod National Seashore (CACO)

Project Description This project will assess the effects of off-road vehicle (ORV) traffic on the beach

natural community of Cape Cod National Seashore (CACO) and provide baseline

data to support a long-term monitoring program for selected indicator species.

Monitoring samples will be designed to distinguish changes in the beach biota

resulting from vehicle distrubance, from differences between monitoring samples

due to short-term succession in clumps of wrack or from environmental differences

between different beach types. The monitoring program will be narrowly-targeted so

as to minimize time investment so that it can be carried out by Park staff over the

long term.
