Indicate order of preference for consideration among fellowships 1, 2, 3, and -- where it may apply -- 4 in descending order, first choice begin 1. Graduating undergraduate students may apply for the Roth Fellowship only; while those applying for the Biggane Fellowship need evidence no post-secondary academic record, although they must be persons in mid-career who are at least age 35 at the time of application. 1. Legislative Fellows Program (Total number of positions based on funding and suitable placement.) The Legislative Fellows Program is designed to provide talented and skilled graduate/post-graduate students with intimate knowledge of New York government, fostering an understanding of our governmental system, and to attract those able students to public service careers from a variety of academic disciplines. Placement to the office of an elected member, subcommittee or commission, or central staff. 2. Richard J. Roth Journalism Fellowship (One position.) A memorial fellowship established upon the death of Richard J. Roth, a former Senate Press Officer, the Roth placement is intended for students with experience and/or intentions in the fields of communications, journalism, and/or public relations. Placement is to the Senate Press office 3. Richard A. Wiebe Public Service Fellowship (One position.) A memorial fellowship established upon the retirement of an extraordinary public servant, tax specialist, and advisor to governors and Senate leaders. Students with legal training and a variety of other backgrounds have been selected. The Wiebe placement is to the Counsel and Program Office. 4. James L. Biggane Fellowship in Finance and Fiscal Studies (One position.) A memorial fellowship established upon the death in 2001 of Jim Biggane, former Forest Ranger who walked out of the woods and into the halls of government. Jim became the trusted advisor of the executive, Legislature, and progessional staffs concentrating in program and policy, finance, and fiscal studies. Under New York State guidelines resulting from Federal Immigration and Naturalization Service standards, those selected to be Senate Fellows shall be required to confirm their United States citizenship upon enrollment: see Title 8, United States Code, Sec. 1324A.
The following original documents qualify as independent or stand-alone forms of verification until this standard may be altered:
List A: * A United States Passport. * A Certificate of United States Citizenship, or *A Certificate of Naturalization.
Alternatively, interdependent forms of identification that satisfy Rules of Verification may be assembled -- that is, matched and presented -- one from each of the following two lists:
List B: *A current New York State driver's license or NYS DMV non-driver ID with photograph, or * A United States Military Card.
List C: * An original Social Security Card -- other than a card stating it is not valid for identification or not valid for employment -- or * A Certificate of Birth issued by a state, county, or municipal authority and bearing certification.
If you have a special siuation or set of circumstances in such regard, discuss it with your CLO now! If you are selected, you must be able to present the necessary and appropriate identification at the time of enrollment or you will not be allowed to join the fellowship program; you may be separated from among the fellowship candidates; and in any event you later may be separated from the fellowship of cause if you are not enrolled.
REVIEW APPLICATION MATERIALS & ALL PERSONAL DOCUMENTS: DATE AND SIGN YOUR NAME BELOW. If you are selected for enrollment in a fellowship, after your arrival in Albany you must be able to presnet original documents in verification of United States Citizenship to be enrolled. Remember: application is for a fellowship, not for employment.
With the exception of confidential materials to which you cannot have access, you are advised to amke and keep photocopies of each page of the application as completed. Be sure to place yoru name in the top right hand corner of every page of your application.
OATH: I understand that all application materials submitted become part of a confidential file [Public Law 93-380, Sec. 438(a)(1)(B)] to copied for dispatch during the interview and decision process and for process and for purposes of placement if I am selected, and that the file may become a resource ifI am considered for further education or employment; all materials furnished by me are original where appropriate and the information accurate and true to the best of my knowledge; and that if I am selected I agree to meet all obligations of the program in which I may be enrolled.
