Begin page header:
Page number field of actual page, offset = 0: 2
Page number field with offset = 1:
Page number field with offset = 2:
Page number field with offset = 3:
End page header.
LibreOffice bug:
Page number fields with offsets greater than number of pages in the document appear as blank fields. Sometimes. Actually, it’s unclear what the pattern is. Sometimes they’re filled out, sometimes blank.
The point of the offset is to let you create a document with page numbers that start at a high number, for example, a document of attachments that will be stapled to a government form, where the page number on the document should start at one greater than the number of pages on the form.
This document has 2 pages.
On p. 1, offset = 0, 1 displays (1, 2). Offset = 2, 3 are blank.
(Except sometimes, offset = 0, 1, 2 display (1, 2, 3) and offset = 3 is blank on page 1.)
On p. 2, offset = 0 displays (1). Offset = 1, 2, 3 are blank.
(And this is always consistent.)
To reproduce:
1. Make a duplicate copy of this document, quit LibreOffice entirely, and open the copy.
2. Add a third page. Save, close, quit, and re-open the document.
On p. 1, offset = 0, 1, 2 displays (1, 2, 3). Offset = 3 is blank.
(Except sometimes, offset = 0, 1, 2, 3 displays (1, 2, 3, 4) on page 1.)
On p. 2, offset = 0, 1 displays (2, 3). Offset = 2, 3 are blank.
(Except sometimes, offset = 0, 1, 2 displays (2, 3, 4) on page 2.)
On p. 3, offset = 0 displays (3). Offset = 1, 2, 3 are blank.
(And this is always consistent.)
3. Add a fourth page. Save, close, quit, and re-open the document.
On p. 1, offset = 0, 1, 2, 3 displays (1, 2, 3, 4).
On p. 2, offset = 0, 1, 2, 3 displays (2, 3, 4, 5).
On p. 3, offset = 0, 1, 2 displays (3, 4, 5). Offset = 3 is blank.
On p. 4, offset = 0 displays (4). Offset = 1, 2, 3 are blank.
4. Go to:
Insert → Fields → Other … Page → Page numbers → As Page Style
Choose the offset value at equal or greater to the number of pages in the document. It’s blank.
